Body Image Media

Women- Female bodies are everywhere. Some advertising business's use womens' bodies to sell prodects ranging from food to cars. Pressure on women to look and behave certain ways is so deeply ingrained in our pysches that it's easy to overlook the mass culture has on how people feel about their bodies.

Men- "Culture of muscularity" is whats hot on most males thoughts. TV images of muscular, shirtless men lifting weights and selling cologne and deodorant leave men with the insecurity that they are unhappy with their muscles.

Teenage Girls- In todays society teenage girls feel the need to be skinny or guys won't like them. They feel that they need to starve themselves to lose weight to be as small as other girls. The latest fashions also influence their body image. Hollister and Abercrombie modles aren't "fat". Girls tend to look up and try to look like most models.

Teenage Boys- Most "popular" teenage males are athletes. Peers develope the feeling that they need to be athletic to help look good. Also to work out and have a nice body to get ladies. Men aren't very concerned with body images as much as females.

  1. I really liked the topic you chose, I thought it was really to the point about kids this age having to compete with others weight to feel better about themselves. I thought you did a good job describing how young girls feel the need to lose weight to impress a boy they like, and have to starve themselves so they can fit into the latest fashion. I also really like how at the beginning of your blog you used the quote "Its a mind game, not a body game" it really described what the whole blog was going to be about.
